9:00am - I arrive at the office and have the firm's breakfast they are putting on at the moment. It's a good time to catch up with friends and is a lovely start to the day.
9:30am - I am attending a case management conference (CMC) today so I make my way over to the Technology & Construction Court. I meet barristers as well as members of the Commercial Dispute Resolution team who are also working on the case. It is a high value claim involving an important client and attending is valuable experience. I take an attendance note and observe as the CMC takes place. The CMC takes a few hours and the team and I make it back in time for lunch.
12:30pm - The firm puts on free lunches up to three times a week in the office. It is a great time to catch up with other members of the team and go for a walk with some of the trainees along the bridge.
1:30pm - After attending court in the morning, I check my emails and prioritise my to-do list. I am currently working on a few matters for different members of the team; tasks for these include drafting letters to the other side, research into the enforcement of judgments in different jurisdictions, and emailing Counsel with updates on various documents. I have also had the opportunity to attend a variety of client meetings, which has enabled me to gain practical experience in this area. I like that in litigation, the matters we work on are quite different from each other and so provide a great opportunity to learn new skills.
3:30pm - As trainees, we are encouraged to get involved in Business Development. I focus on drafting an article on the Online Safety Act which will be published through Passle.
5:30pm - Before I log off, I update my task list and ensure my time recording for the day is complete.
6:00pm - There is a trainee social tonight, our intake and the intake above are going bowling where there will be snacks and refreshments. It is a lot of fun when the trainees are together and a relaxing way to finish the day.
